I think i’ve committed or seen each one of these sins being committed at least once through my career (some of them a lot more often). And they are deadly indeed. Doing research while committing these sins is the best way to come to a conclusion that user research actually doesn’t make sense and it’s nothing more than waste of money and time… and that couldn’t be farther from truth. What I find to be true about user research is that it is actually very hard to do properly and there are no easy answers — you have to dig hard. Once you realize you shouldn’t be chasing easy instant solutions and doing research pro-form, you are on your way to start making sense of it.
